Meet Chalisse Burrell, a New York based collector, curator, and big fan of Jacques Solovière.
Originally from Jersey City, Chalisse spent her weekends taking a quick bus from home to the big New York City, which she's always had a deep love for. Now, 16 years later, she is full time in the city doing what she loves--searching for and selling one of a kind objects while also working with an artist in Greenpoint, running their own studio.
Chalisse has always been drawn to objects that provoke strong emotions. Some pieces she lives with for a little, while others she knows immediately she’ll never part with—like a 1970s Brutalist chandelier by Tom Greene that now hangs in her living room. Her Serge Black pair from Jacques Solovière is in the same category, shoes that “fit perfectly with my style.” More recently, she added the Edouard Lug Bold in Black—which she's already planned full outfits around.
With her expertise, we asked her to place Jacques Solovière in another era, she turns to the 1930s—Art Deco, and more precisely, Streamline Moderne. “Sexy, sleek, and bold.”
Being in New York, there is no shortage of inspiration for her curated selection, but her favorite place to go when she’s looking for that extra push is the Met. Chalisse also enjoys strolling through Central Park for people-watching. As she puts it, “It’s a beautiful park, full of beautiful people.”
If her Jacques Solovière had a soundtrack, it would be Metric’s Live It Out—a reflection of her energy and her store.
When asked how she decides what she's keeping versus what's going in her store, she says: "Anything that gives you strong feelings. Sometimes you just feel it."
